Friday Favorites

favorite things

A new segment! Every Friday you can catch five of my favorite things from the week. You can expect fashion, videos, food, and everything in between. I hope you enjoy!

1. MIDI RINGS. This Gorjana midi ring from Nordie’s. Midi rings can quickly cross the line into the trashy category but I think one or two rings on each hand can be pretty tasteful and eye-catching. You can find another great set of stackers from my favorite Brooklyn jeweler, Catbird.

2. DOOR KNOBS. I love the idea of jazzing up a dresser or cabinet knob with something fresh. It’s a great way to add a pop of color to your furniture. I love this glass knob from Anthropologie

3. CRACKLE PAINT. The distressed look in small doses!  I think Martha Stewart’s crackle paint is a cool way to add that distressed look to small pieces in your home to give it a lived in, edgy look. If you want to start small, a good idea would be to buy a cheap frame, vase, or a pot for your porch/balcony and test it out. I’m digging the Gravel crackle.

4. GLITTER AND AVIATORS. If you are on Instagram, please follow my girl @glitterandaviators. Her style is crisp, her taste is classic, and she ADORES glitter. Her page is all about inspiring viewers with timeless quotes on fashion while giving you a glimpse on how to do New York City right. Follow her Luxers, follow her! P.S. Here is a picture of her STUNNING, GORGEOUS, EVERYTHING Oscar de la Renta wedding dress. #amIright?

5. HALLOWEEN!! Happy Halloween, everyone! It’s one of my favorite holidays. I’ll be dressing up with my best gals as the seniors from Dazed and Confused. I took a paint pen and stencils from Michael’s, and bedazzled up a workout tee from Target. I’ll pair it with jean shorts, tube socks from American Apparel, and potentially a DIY floral crown. We will be raising hell all over the Bean.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween, and I hope a Best Dressed Award is in your near future! I leave you with one of my favorite skits from Saturday Night Live.

Tune in next Friday for my tribute to all things WINTER WHITE.

Must Read List

I needed a new crop of books to take me into November so here are my top three. Lately, I’ve been into reading autobiographies so I was excited to find out two empowering women, both in their own way, we’re coming out with their stories NOW. The third book is a thriller by a favorite author. Read on to find out who made the cut!

‘The Woman I Wanted to be’ Diane von Furstenberg

‘Yes Please’ Amy Poehler

‘The Secret Place’ Tana French

the secret place

Taking place in Dublin, this is the 5th book in the series. I picked up ‘In the Woods’ years ago and could not put it down. I recommend starting from the beginning and make your way up to ‘The Secret Place.’

You’ll find the link to buy on their picture. What are some of the books on your must read list?

Egg nested in hash browns

Sunday was made for brunching! I love brunch. I love brunch food. I love brunch food for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. These nests are super easy, super delicious, and an excellent go-to when you invite your closest girlfriends over for Sunday drinks and eats. There are so many variations you can make but this Sunday I just did a standard egg and cheese.

15 oz. frozen shredded hash browns, thawed

1 cup Sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded

1 tablespoon olive oil

12 medium eggs

Salt and pepper

1 tablespoon of Cheddar to top

1/2 tablespoon of parsley, (dry or fresh)

1 avocado

Mix hash browns, salt, pepper, olive oil and 1 cup of cheddar cheese in a mixing bowl

Grease the muffin pan and divide hash brown mixture. Use your fingers to make the nests and make sure potato covers the bottom.

Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Hash browns will be browned on the edge.

Crack a medium egg into each nest and season with a pinch of salt, pepper, and parsley. Top with a sprinkle of shredded cheddar.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 13 minutes. Egg whites should look set.

Gently slide a knife along the edge (carefully, my first one was a casualty) and lift them out with a fork. (KEY)

Plate and top with a spoonful of pico de gallo and a couple slices of avocado. YUM.

The egg will be poached so make sure that your guests like their eggs runny. Pair it with a nice mimosa and your guests will be raring to come back!

Other variations:

Adding bacon, prosciutto, or ground sausage

Sweet potato hash brown nests with sugar-cinnamon apples topped with marshmallows. Mmmmm Thanksgiving ideas!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend. I hope it involves great food, great drinks, and most importantly, good laughs with family and friends.

Fall looks.

My new job seems to be a whirlwind of new responsibilities and late nights. It keeps me challenged, which is what I’ve been looking for, but it has led me to lag on this blog. No MORE! Be on the lookout for updated cravings, new foodie obsessions, and any disaster Tinder dates (yes, I said it) that are in the future. Well, hopefully no more disaster dates.

I thought I would update you on a few fall looks that I’ve been craving and a few that I’ve scored. Fall is my favorite season because it allows you to layer in so many different ways to keep warm. I’m always late to switch my closet over to winter for that reason alone. I love pairing summer tanks and tee’s with chunky sweaters or vests and a flat.

While I’m always late to switch over, the best part about switching over is clearing out the old to leave room for the new. Without further ado, these are my scores so far for this season.

This fun cardigan from Top Knot Goods. They also have fun tee’s like one that says ‘No rest for the RAD.’

This picture doesn’t do the hat justice, but it’s my new fall into winter hat. I’ve always been a fan of a chunky, beanie hat for winter but everyone needs a change, right?

Lastly, my ‘I will wear you rain or shine’ Hunter Red rain boots. I can’t get enough.

I try to get a few key pieces that I know I’ll keep for a couple of seasons and then leave extra cash for trendy finds that I can snag up at T.J. Maxx or the outlets. With that said, I may have to dip into my extra cash for a couple of Frenchie craved pieces from the new collaboration with Madewell. Besides the fact that I feel like I was born in the wrong country, #francophile, it’s always hard for me to walk away from a small polka dot or bow print. Anyone else??

I’ll keep you posted on my ‘not so hard on the wallet’ finds.

What are some of the items that are on your score/crave list this fall?
