Life is too short. Wear sequins.

Happy New Year!

It only feels natural that my first blog post of the new year should include sequins; J.Crew inspired.

jcrew sequin pants

I loved these J.Crew sequin pants but they were all out of my size. So I thought to myself “you’re a handy gal, you can do this.” SO, without further ado, here is how I turned my reqular old pants into FANCY pants…

Go to Joann Fabrics and buy two rolls of stretch sequin ribbon

BR pants

Take an old pair of ‘drapey’ pants like these above

sequin your pants

Turn the pants on their side. Lay flat. Curl the edge of the sequin ribbon 1/4 inch and pin with quilt pin directly onto the pants.

Continue to pin the sequin ribbon all the way down until you get to the bottom seam. Curl the edge of the sequin ribbon 1/4 inch and pin with quilt pin.

I hand sewed from the top to bottom. I started with a straight line across to secure the ribbon and then I continued down the pant leg in a zig zag pattern. I finished by sewing a straight line at the bottom. The trick is to not sew through the sequins themselves.

Repeat the same instructions on the other pant leg.

And then spend your Saturday night drinking champagne, dancing on tables, and taking sequins wherever you go…

sequins and pants and love

Or grabbing brunch on Sunday with your best gals in a chambray shirt and loafers.

Or sprinkling date night with a low cut silk top and a kitten heel and a leather jacket.

Possibilities are endless!

I hope you all had a safe and happy New Year’s Eve. Cheers to a New Year with new adventures and new moments to enjoy.

Life In The Travel Lane : Boca

Seas the day!

FullSizeRender (66)

I’ll look back on this and smile because it was life and I decided to live it.

I recently came back from a quick #besties getaway to Boca and I wanted to share all of the adventures. Boca is a wanderful place!

And trying to make my half-up, half-down top knot game ON POINT. #frizzyhairdontcare

Crushing this game called Bocce.

And loving this treat called Mandel Bread. #justcallbestiesGrandmaGiada

And enjoying unlimited mimosas and yummy treats at City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill. P.S. Figs in salad is a game changer.

And spending hours in Restoration Hardware (adult and baby) which I can only describe as a vortex that sucks you in and holds you tight and never wants to let you go. And if you’re anything like us, you stay in for 2 hours, leave, and then come back to buy this stellar faux fur Russan Ushanka hat. Be excited that your besties bought them too and now you can match during real winter activities.

Because eventually we would be heading back to the East Coast where it wasn’t #somewheresunnyand85

DO NOT be surprised if while you’re still in RH you DO see their faux fur slippers at every corner and try them on at every corner in hopes of finding something you hate about them so you don’t think about them when you leave. #fail

Next, stopped in Anthropolgie and fell in love with their candle display game…

And then we VOLUNTARILY stayed to enjoy the faux snow fall that City Place puts on all winter long.

Palm trees and twinkly lights and snow fall pair SO well together. #amIright #beautifulviews

DO NOT be surprised if there is a stage in the center of City Place and they invite kids everyone up on stage to whip and nae nae.

IT WAS A WEEKEND OF… floral crowns, tailgating, and front row lawn seats for Drake White and Zac Brown Band.

DO NOT be surprised if your Kate Spade koozies and floral crowns make you giddy, if you drool over shaved ice from Paradise Cups, and definitely DO NOT be surprised if you realize that getting into the concert right when the gates open with your lawn chairs is the ONLY way to enjoy lawn seats. #gamechanger #amIright #frontrowstatus

With a little Monday Funday…

And a lot of memories in our mind and on our shared drive…

To get us through the winter. I’ll drink to that. #amIright

While it was a wanderful weekend for us, unfortunately not everyone was sharing the same joy. You never know what is going to happen in life. I am thankful and in awe of those that did and do serve (in any way, shape, or form) to protect and help others in need.

Fall pairs well with…

…flannel, your favorite leather tote bag (similar), distressed jeans, that felt hat, Ugg studded flats, and your favorite Catbird necklace.

And sipping on pumpkin spice latte’s from scratch at the cutest coffee shop in all the land

Until the very.last.drop

And then picking up a sight for sore eyes at your local Whole Foods while someone PRACTICALLY YELLS across the store passes you to tell you they LOVE your outfit. #winning #famous #amIright

How do you style your Fall?

That weekend at the Big E…

This weekend, the Big E paired well with a felt hat, chambray shirt, suede skinny jeans, taupe booties, and PIXI skin.

I absolutely LOVE the Big E so here were my snags.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no intension of pushing Fall over so I can fall right into Winter, but, I WILL BE READY… for someone to invite me to a ski lodge, that is! Anybody?? Bueller??

I will be sure to be extra warm in these handmade ARAN yarned mittens and hat.

wine holders

How cute will these be to hold wine and then hang above my wine rack? In the house of my dreams that I don’t have yet, OF COURSE.

And don’t think I didn’t clean eat my way through that big fest. Cream puffs, and cheese fries, and cider donuts, OH MY.

sister date

Naturally, the Big E pairs well with sister day dates, holding hands with your boo while eating maple cotton candy from the New Hampshire house, canoodling in the long long line with your MAIN squeeze waiting for that baked potato from the Maine house, swooning over that apple cider slushie from the Vermont house and not swooning over ANYTHING in the Connecticut house.

IT also pairs well with a suprise Claddagh necklace from your sis that she picked up while you were busy checking yourself out in the mirror in your new hat and mittens. You can never have too much love, loyalty, and friendship, in my opinion #amIright. I’m lucky to have a sister who loves me no matter how many blog pictures I ask her to take. I’m lucky to have a sister who always has my back no matter how many times I tell her not to zoom in. Lastly, I’m lucky to have a sister who will hold my hand through life no matter where I go. I’m lucky to have all the love, loyalty, and friendship in her.

P.S. How do you style your Big E?

Fall essentials

Fall must haves

What are your fall must haves? My new added pieces are these taupe leather booties from Seychelles and this tan felt hat from San Diego Hat Company (similar).

Fall must haves pair well with skinny jeans, pumpkin spice anything (#amIright), layers because fall is always hot then it’s cold, it’s yes then it’s no, fire pits with your family, this song I’m obsessed with by Trevor Hall, vino and projector screen movies in your back yard, picnics in Central Park, and cozy throws and movies with your boo.

What are you picking up this fall?

Friday Favorites

Friday Favorites

Fashion is what you buy, style is what you do with it

As summer is coming to a close {insert sobbing}, I am trying to wear my summer floppy hat AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. SO, my hat is the focus of my Friday Favorite segment this week. It’s all about how to take a good hat into an eye catching, neon obsessed, all things color popping hat. I hope you enjoy…

Before photo

Before I went to Costa Rica (Monteverde, Arenal, Manuel Antonio), I wanted a big floppy hat to tote around. I searched far and wide for a hat with a little something extra but I wasn’t finding it. What’s a girl to do? D.I.Y. I loved this hat the minute I tried it on and I KNEW it had the utmost potential.

Next stop; Michael’s for some neon pink craft pant. All I wanted to do was to make a rim of color underneath the brim and I found the perfect shade of HELLO, LOOK AT ME pink.

paper plate and craft paint

I didn’t want to dab on too much paint at one time so the paper plate comes in handy. It helped me to adjust the amount of paint on my paint sponge.

Next, I just went around the rim slowly until it was complete.

I painted on a second coat and let it dry.

And then let this happen…

Costa Rica

Nailed it. Under budget and unique!

Floppy hats with a neon rim pair well with a besties vacation, hanging out at the Great Lawn in New York City, beach bumming with your boo, lake lounging with your family, outdoor outlet shopping in San Diego, and/or sipping vino at a beautiful vineyard.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks Friday Faves. And remember…

Be happy • Be bright • Be you

How do you style your summer?

DIY Floral Crown

Floral Crowns

What you will need:

* faux flowers * floral tape * floral wire * wire cutters * twine *

1. Cut two pieces of floral wire 16 inches in length.

2. Intertwine the two pieces loosely so that they are easy to manipulate.

3. Cut two pieces of twine 9 inches in length.

4. Cut the flower pieces (about 12-15 per crown) off the stems. You will want to leave at least a 1/4 inch of stem on the flower so that you have something to wrap the tape around.

Flowers cut

4. Place 1/2 inch of the twine onto one end of the wire and start rolling the tape around the twine and the wire. *you will not cut the tape until you get to the other end of the wire while you place the flowers around*

5. Place the stem against the wire and start wrapping the tape around. It’s best to wrap it around twice so that you know it will be secure.  Bring the tape underneath the stem and continue to wrap around the remaining wire. I went about 1/2 inch before I started placing another flower.

Flowers and tape

6. Leave 1/2 inch left at the end of the wire so that you can tape the 2nd piece of twine on the end. Once you’ve taped to the end of the wire, cut the tape.

I had 5 stems of faux flowers, one roll of twine and wire and tape and I was able to make 8 crowns.

Floral crowns go well with country concerts (well, ALMOST any kind of concert), cold brews and koozies, an all weekend music festival, canoodling with your boo on a park bench in Central Park, and/or wineries on a Saturday. Crowns can be warn over your forehead, around the crown of your head, or wrapped around your wrist. The possibilities are endless!

National Girlfriends Day

Happy National Girlfriends Day!

To all my dearest girlfriends out there…thank you for filling my life with love, sarcasm, inappropriateness, and the greatest of shenanigans. In honor of this day, I’m making floral crowns for our Zac Brown Band concert next weekend. #yay #floralsANDfun #allthingsfloral

Floral crownsCheck back in a little while for a look at the final project!

Be still, my wallet.

I have found the retail store of my dreams. Trivial, I know, but it is so good. I’m thinking of quitting my per diem day job and working as a clerk just so that I can hang out, shop, hoard work there EVERY DAY. If you are ever in Niantic, you must stop at GRACE! You will love, love, love, love, love it.

DO NOT be surprised if you feel the need to stop everything and drive, fly, boat from wherever you live and get your butt to this store. But definitely DO NOT be surprised if you want to pitch a tent and live there.

Once you’ve actually managed to push yourself out the door, DO stop at Skippers and order the tossed salad with seafood, curly fries, and potato clam cakes. DO scope out a seat while you order because

Skippers food, YUM.

DO stop at the the used book store down the street; The Book Barn and stock up on some books because you won’t have any money to do anything else but read for the next couple of months after all the damage you did at GRACE. #emphasisonthewordUSED #easyonthewallet

Book barn

DO go home broke and full. But really wallet, be still.
